Michigan Speedway Information
The Michigan International Speedway is part of Brooklyn, Michigan’s proud 50-year history of hosting incredible races. The track is a 1,400 plus acre facility set against the scenic Irish Hills that offers features that racers love including 18-degree banking and 73-foot wide sweeping turns that offer an interesting challenge to even the most experienced racers. NASCAR fans enjoy the sense of speed and skill that comes from racers barreling around the D-shaped track that features three and four grooves for racers to run around.
The track is primarily used for NASCAR events and is considered a sister track to the Texas World Speedway since it was used as the basis of Auto Club Speedway. The track is owned and operated by International Speedway Corporation (ISC) and has become recognized as one of the motorsports’ best facilities. A lot of this acclaim comes from its wide racing surface and banking that offers some of the fastest races in NASCAR. The typical qualifying speed to even compete often ends more than 200 mph (320 km/h) and corner entry speeds often range from 215 to 220 mph after the 2012 repaving.
But fast and intense motorsports aren’t the only reason to come out to Michigan International Speedway since it hosts several other events annually. These events include the Michigan High School Athletic Association cross country finals, the annual Make-A-Wish Bicycle Tour, and several concerts as part of their race weekends. Driving schools are also held at the raceway throughout the year, as well as the Formula SAE competition. Frequent spectators can also enjoy the country music festival Faster Horses.
MIS is undeniably a part of NASCAR’s rich history and racing culture as well as a major part of life in Brooklyn, Michigan.
